[edit] So, what's a Chinese?

Come & drink tea with me, LOR! Tea for Chinese~

tea bowl for drinking tea

According to Chinese tradition, the original cup of tea was not invented but discovered in the course of daily affairs by the simple inhabitants in the hills of Min-nan, who found out the secret of preserving the essence of the green tea leaves. It was rolled and dried and good for keeping until when needed.

In modern China, virtually every dwelling--down to the simplest mud huts--has a set of tea implements for brewing a hot cup of tea. These implements are symbols of welcome for visitors or neighbors.

Traditionally, a visitor to a Chinese home will be expected to sit down and drink tea while talking; the Chinese consider having such visits while standing to be uncouth

I call it the root cause of our 5000 years old culture. Actually it's only a drink, ie. I drink hot tea, cup after cups of it without any problem.

"Far deeper than the formal trends of common values in Chinese culture is found with simple plant known as tea. It is an essence discovered by the simple farmers while trying to enhance their tasteless water. Tea is found all over scattered in the many parts of China. Without tea, there will not be any real roots to the real cause of the Chinese culture."

One Chinese girl on top of all others

Ruth Oh is a Chinese Singaporean living among Canadians in Alberta!

Chinese A Singaporean does not mean that person is a Chinese, that someone can be just about as likely to be of any races including the Chinese.

We are a multi-racial and multicultural society and anyone who permanently resides here and identifying with the community at large in Singapore are Singaporeans.

Singaporeans could be anyone, from Malay to Indian or Ceylonese, or any of the people living here and have their homes in Singapore.
<

As far as can be determined a person's peerage in Singapore is not necessary determined by parentage or genes but by the academic standing, peer group, cultural standing and age etc certainly not because of race alone.

My father is a Malay does that make me A Malay when I am brought up as a Chinese <by my own> Mother who is a freethinking modern day Chinese Ah chim? I am not pure Malay but a mixture of all kinds of genes!

Chinese are only real because they look like one Chinaman or Chinese lady. My Mother is Chinese, I am Malay because she marry a Malay man! That's parentage in the sense of fatherhood accountablity!

Most people of Chinese<race> descent here speak Hokkien actually it is known as Min Nan<Southern> language. here is a sample

****Take the case of a famous person in Singapore :S. Dhanabalan is a Singaporean of Tamil Indian descent. A devout Christian (Baptist), he is married to Christine Dhanabalan (who is ethnic Chinese) and they have two children. from wikipedia sources [[1]] Question: what about their children , are they Indians? Tamils or Chinese? Please tell someone? I think they are all Christians, that is their religion, but not their race, may be they are all free to choose _Lor! Tea for Chinese~
