[edit] The true communists
Communism was a popular philosophy in the early 60s. in Singapore a lot of our Chinese educated people were either influenced and swayed by the popular trends of those post colonial sentiments of the times. Many could never tell the difference between a true dedicated communist and a dedicated anti-colonialist. Often than not, most were confused by the political speeches and radio talks initiated by the politicians themselves. There were never any clear cutted lines drawn. When the ex-Prime Minister MM Lee was in charge in Singapore as the Prime Minister, he was used to give radio and <later> TV talks about people who were sent to jail without trail under the Garmen detention Internal Security laws, actually a carried over piece of legistration used by him in his ruthless fights against so-called hidden communist. Yet the truth was never allowed to be told as many of those believed to be dedicated communists. Most of them never admitted that they were such <communists> even under constant interrogations by special branch officers! Among them were Chia Thye Poh and Lim Chin Siong who remained many years incarcerated in garmen detention camps. These were true Singaporeans who claimed by words and lives that they were willing to remain in detention without renouncing their own true belief as innocent people whom the garmen had wrongfully put in jail< for many years> without trials. This is our part of history which Singaporeans must face sooner or later as history cannot be written unless the truth is told.[[User:Terry How|: Terri talk 01:12, October 8,2005 (UTC)]] 03:56, 9 April 2006 (SGT)
