Editing Death on the Cross[[1]]

The death on the Cross was a Christian sign, and a reality which occurred about 2000 year ago. It was also known as the crucifixion.

Crucifixion is an ancient method of execution, where the victim was tied or nailed to a large wooden cross (possible as a variation a pole or beam) and left to hang there until dead. It was widely considered a not uncommon but extremely dishonorable and painful form of judicial execution in the Roman Empire, though similar methods were employed in other ancient cultures such as Persia. {{#if:||{{#if:|[[Category:Articles with unsourced statements since {{{date}}}]]|}}}}[citation needed]

Crucifixion was used by the Romans until about AD 313, when Christianity was legalized in the Roman Empire and soon became the official state religion. However, it has been used in various places in modern times.

Since Jesus Christ was crucified, the crucifix became the main symbol of most Christians (while some Protestants prefer to use a cross without a body to emphasis the fact that Christ lives); an alternative symbol, since Roman persecution, was the Ichthys.Image:Christ1.gif
