What is honor? A famous American scientist once said, He does not understand it{honor), and asked the audience what is honor ! yet he was famous for helping the nation (USA) by making or creating the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs during the WW2, and help ending the war.

Honor is not a cultural trait of another society, it is the core of our spiritual and moral well being. When a person has no regards for others, it is selfishness at the core of one own behaviour, and such destuctive behaviour when expressed have far greater consequences! It can be found in any free society without any reins over the minds of the people for self-control, patience and preseverance. How can a person understand self-control unless one exercise repects for others? It is a basic human rule of our unspoken moral code of conduct.

Today most of our Singapore's technocrats or the scientific people are not altogether ignorant of such things as honor or they may be choosing to reject it from our vocabulary intentionally?

The Bible warned us to honor our parents, it's the fabric upon which a society will live for many thousands of years or fall within a short time of history. The Chinese culture understood it and their civilization had continue to our days, however many of the old western nations like Egyptians, Romans, Greeks and the Babylonian peoples have come to past..

Although as Christian believers we do not practice the venerations of our ancestors, it is great importance to understand the Bible warns us to honor our living older parents. This is unlike (different) honoring God ( as in worship) it is a matters of high respect and regards for them as your honorable parents who bore your good self.

The simple respects for others is a must for moral obligation if we want to live at peace with others, but respect cannot be learnt unless a greater respect for parents is started at the core or our morality while we are still children. Teaching your children to respect the elders is the core of our Chinese culture, which we must never forget unless we want to throw away the values incalculated in among our civilization of six thousand years old.

[edit] People who we should honor

1. Our parents- that is all walks of life esp. from the Chinese culture, the Bible (ten commandments) and common sense that tell us our parents brought us up and care for and nourish us and so deserving all our respects plus honors..see Charity , Mother!
2. Older folks or Seniors - as a matter of respect, one day we all will aged and grow older, and how do U expect the younger to treat U?
3. Our founding fathers that is a bit of history and politics, sorry i respect but honor is not a matter for debate, since dead people need our memory to remember their good deeds, the bad ones are all closed by God, and even history is also kinder too.
