Well to counter the negative (UNDESIRABLE) influences of cultural trends and cultural mindsets especially among the Hokkien speaking uncouth youth who were multiplying themselves as gangs OR cohorts of unruly gangsters on the little Island. THE SIMPLE ANSWER: he REPLACED their mother tongue and introduced their new language, the "speak mandarin" brand , and finally he put them (the unruly youths) into mandatory National Service by gathering them up and had them to undergo re formative training , after that they were too worn out, had no more energy to fight in the streets, except the only remaining instinct left, that is to raise their little chicken coops for cagey FUTURE new brood of chicken hehehe
So the story never ends..it continued to our day..i 'm a living historian from Paradise here, and need no proofs we saw it, and are living witnesses hehehe
