Singapore was a former Colony under the British rule, it was labelled as a "crown colony" see flag below:

  • There are still many Countries with the "Head of State" - a king or a Queen. The crown is a visible symbolic possession of the King's or Queen's ownership.

Singapore was once-upon-a-time under the British empire's indirect rule, and our system still possess some of that old stuffs in our basic constitution as well as in our history.

If anyone want to know more, please see "Singapore, a crown colony" under Yahoo or Google..

or goto see here [[2]]

What is Singapore now? it's a "republic" and we have a President..

If Singapore is as BIG as USA maybe the President will have real executive powers too, however we are so small, and the role of the Office of the President does not have much power, except as a ceremonial "head" just like a our older "Grandfather" in a small household of an extended family.
