iNTRODUCTION: SINGAPOREANS LOVE MOVIES OR WATCHING THEM, AND it's a common pastime..
[edit] Movie watching and singing both are perennial pastimes in the 60s and 70s
There is no doubt a past generation of avid movie watching and goers had lived in the 60s and 70s when many spent thier pastimes (over weekends) to watch their favorite movies -again and again! Why? A lot the watchers went to listen and then learnt to sing along (i.e way be4 the Karaoke!) their popular opera like "liang san po zu eng tai" a few dozen times..
Hokkien or Amoy (Min nan) were also in their booming heydays too when the Hokkien movies were popular: I even watch this mandarin version too: [[2]] 'n enjoying to sing along ! hehehe..and the focus? ..heart thrillers? romance? listen here [[<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B-xAZeEsNRA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B-xAZeEsNRA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It goes without saying much that old film and entertainment industry was the big & only flourishing money generating enterprise in the 60s & 70s until the garmen stup controls .. There is no doubt the great Movie making empires were run by a few people: Big money are contolled by a few minds, and the Politicians had to introduce new mind-sets by way of their hidden agenda and powers..
[edit] ..THE END?..NOT a conclusion..
The tragic suicide-death of great Movieland stars like Lin Dai and Betty Loh Ti (popular big screen stars) were shocking realities and even the mogul king (Loke Mun Tho) of movie-making in tragic (real) plane accident remained the top stories in all the papers in those heydays..
A few lucky ones survived and they were not that big either..like Lin Po and others ( most left for faraway places (overseas)to do & live out their retirement hideouts among foreigners in the west..goto walk and talk

What better way to escape the heat and humidity on a Sunday afternoon then to duck into one of the dozens of cinemas in Singapore? It really is no wonder that movie-going is the number one past-time here - for around $7 to 10, you get the latest Hollywood blockbuster, air-conditioning, comfortable seats (sometimes), state-of-the-art digital "surround" sound, as well as a crash course on all the latest variations of cellular phone ringing tones. Yes, going to the movies here is likely to be a vastly different experience from where you come from. Keep reading and you'll find out why...
Watching a movie, Singapore style...
Singapore has the highest pager and cellular phone ownership rate in the world, and it's painfully obvious in the cinemas. People bring all kinds of food into the cinema...burgers, fries, crackers, nuts, popcorn, coffee... watching a movie here is more than just a visual treat. The show never starts on time. When it says 9:15, it actually means the movie will start at 9:30. Singaporeans are never on time. Having learnt from experience, people will straddle in 15 minutes after showtime, only to find the movie started 5 minutes earlier. The pre-movie ads are something else. Where else can you find commercials, trailers, government campaigns and the "In case of emergency do not panic" reminder all at the same place? Don't take the "artistic" in R(A) too seriously. If you're early for the movie, take time to admire the "artwork" on the giant movie posters outside some cinemas like Capitol and Cathay. See if you can tell apart Bruce Willis from Leonardo Di Caprio. Some multiplexes need better sound-proofing. Try concentrating on your serious, arty movie when dinosaurs are screaming and stomping all over the cinema next door. Just for the Singaporean who tries to cram everything into their weekends, some cinemas have started screening movies at 2:30am.
Terrified yet? If you're still undaunted, read on... Some quick facts:
Tickets cost around S$7. Some "up-market" cinemas like the Picture House charge a dollar more. The most luxuriest cinema has to be the Golden Village "Gold Class" cinema at Great World City. For $25 a ticket, you get a humongous reclining armchair, lots of room and waiters serving you fine food and drink.
Seating is assigned when you buy the ticket. Forget about last minute ticket-buying, especially for weekend shows. You're likely to end up looking at the screen at a 45 degree angle.
Orchard Cineplex was recently named by the Straits Times as the best cinema in Singapore.
Movies with adult themes are rated R(A). You have to be 21 and above to watch an R(A) movie.
Most cinemas don't allow hot drinks like coffee or tea, and some even insist you buy snacks and drinks from the cinema foyer.
Some cinemas like Lido and Orchard are actually cineplexes, housing up to 10 screens showing different movies.
Singapore has the highest movie-going rate in the world. On an average, a Singaporean goes to the movies 8 times a year.

[edit] the sum of all fears
- When the president of Russia suddenly dies, a man whose politics are virtually unknown succeeds him. The change in political leaders sparks paranoia among American CIA officials, so CIA director Bill Cabot recruits a young analyst to supply insight and advice on the situation. Then the unthinkable happens: a nuclear bomb explodes in a U.S. city, and America is quick to blame the Russians. Written by Sujit R. Varma
When the President of Russia dies and his replaced by a man with a cryptic past, putting the United States on alert to rising Cold War fears. When the CIA suspects that renegade Russian scientists are attempting to develop more mobile nuclear weapons, East-West tensions over flow. CIA director William Cabot sends his best agent, Jack Ryan into action. What Ryan discovers is that terrorists are planning to provoke a war between the U.S. and Russia, by detonating a nuclear bomb at a football game in Baltimore. Written by SindyMac
The United States is very critical of the Russians' treatment of Chechneya that are ready to step in but the new Russian President, whom they believe is a hardliner, tells them that this is none of their concern. However, CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who did research on the man, doesn't think he is. But when the Russians continue to attack Chechneya and the Russian President claims responsibility when in reality he is not, the Americans are ready to go against him. But what they don't know is that there is a third party who is trying to push them into war; which may happen when they detonate a nuclear bomb in the U.S. and people in the Russian Military are in league with this third party and helping him push the two countries to war. But Ryan knows something's going on and is trying to find out what it is before it's too late. Written by rcs0411@yahoo.com
When the Russian President suddenly dies of a heart attack, the new Russian President is sworn in quickly. American intelligence belives him to be a hard-liner, but young CIA analyst Jack Ryan doesn't think so. While Ryan & his boss, Bill Cabot, are inspecting disarmament at Russian nuclear sites, 3 Russian scientists have mysteriously disappeared. Although the Russians have explanations for their absence, none of them are true. In Austria, a strange man - a neo-fascist - has developed a frightening plan to incite a war between Russia & the U.S., using an unexploded bomb from the deserts of the Middle East. When the 3 Russian scientists are later found dead, Ryan tries to trace their path. By this time, the bomb is on its way to the U.S.A - in a cigarette machine! The bomb is placed in a football stadium where the U.S. President is in attendance. Ryan soon discovers the bomb is in Baltimore and alerts Bill Cabot, who gets the President out of the stadium quickly. Minutes later, the low-yield nuclear bomb explodes, killing several thousands!
