• What is a republic ? It is simply an idea ! Nothing more or nothing less: just a very good idea. In order to establish an idea and made it real there must be a time and place for it to be proclaimed.
• For instance, the rocky Island of the Southern lands on the tip of the Mainland of the Peninsula of Malaya:- was a place where Malay fishermen and a bunch of pirates roamed free. They made it their place a hideout and a haunt where they had lived. It was nothing but an island unclaimed and unprotected by any Overlord or Ruler as far can be ascertained in those days - just a small piece Rock as seen from space!
  

• Then (in time and space, an alien, no!) an Englishman with the name of Stamford Raffles and a small brigade of uniformed soldiers came and proclaimed it as a British crown colony .
  

• They boldly came put up a wooden pole and raise a small flag with the insignia and colours of the Empire of old Britain, a sovereign Country. Of course soon after that the undisturbed place quickly became a “tamu” {or Bazaar}, where many people from surrounding came to buy and trade. It could have been the flag of cross bone and skulk, nobody really care or want to know then, except the British! Of course there were interested parties from the Malay Sultan's representative (Temenggong Abdu'r Rahman)and also another the nearby Sultan of Riau Island (Tanjung Pinang) came to state their claims of over lordship on the little rocky Island, but to no avail. All they wanted was some kind of monetary settlements. So the British buy one of them out with a little allowance! They even built a palace for the Sultan in Kampong Glam. So the clever British people made it a reality. Ever since 1819, it became a British crown colony then as a Strait Settlements. Then it joined the rest of the part of the greater protected Malay States until the time when Sir William Goode, the last Governor celebrated his last few years as the British Overlord of the little British crown colony.
  

It became a recognised British protected place but in time and space, the idea of the British colony became a reality for many years. Until when it finally breakaway and joined the neighbours as within Malaysia. Malaysia was proclaimed by the Prince, the Tunku Abdul Rahman as Prime Minister and a new independent Country within the later treaty co-signed by the Far East nations within the sphere of Australia , New Zealand and members Countries within the treaty organization (SEATO) known as the United States and Britain plus the British commonwealth! That treaty had lapsed into obscurity and disbanded in time.

• So the small idea was taken to a new and higher concept when on August 9th, 1965 Mr Lee Kuan Yew after unsuccessfully trying to work within the influence of the late Malaysian Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman ‘s (the Tunku) control decided to become another new entity, known as the State of Singapore. Of course, it was still under the original co-signatory mother-country, Malaysia. Well, with such squabbles within the greater sphere under the invisible hand of Sovereignty of God, the little Island was later kicked out of Malaysia, and become what it was a new little State. It was a small little political entity among the bigger neighbors, and it had many years of hard times, hardly any friendly neighbors (except Brunei). Would Singapore survived? Then it grew and prosperous. The State later became a republic. There was the question of sovereignty. It was resolved with a newly created President who became what is it now, the President of the Republic of Singapore , an independent real sovereign Country. It became a new Nation when it joined the United nations, BTW_amazing_lah!
  

• The Republic could never be a reality until by the Sovereign invisible hand of God in history decided "enough is enough" and so got Malaysia to kick out the little Island or they just left*****here ! • That is how the excellent idea of a republic was conceived (a far distant vision) and put into reality.
