Said Zahari was a one time editor-in-chief of the Malay-language newspaper Utusan Melayu.

• He led a journalists' strike against the takeover of the newspaper by Umno. Also known as Pak Said he was detained by the government of Singapore and subsequently held for 17 years without trial. Allegations against him included being a "communist". He now holds the distinction of being the second longest-serving political detainee in Singapore after Chia Thye Poh.

He was arrested during Operation Coldstore, a joint malaysian and singaporean operation to silence 117 opposition and union leaders under the Internal Security Act.

Film maker Martyn See is currently making a 49 minutes documentary about his 17 years as a political prisoner in Singapore.

NB. I am really ashamed of waht the politics and Pyschological brain-washing ) methods used to torture such people who are accused of crimes they never commit, and arrested like common criminals (handcuffed) separated from their loved ones, and incarceratred for so many (17 plus ) years in detention centres ( no difference really as prisons ), and waht will the ppl do- Do we still believe that money and money and then more money will solve our national's ills and problems?

No wonder: Are they truly souless, empty or atheists ( who deny God ) at heart when they had done their evil works and believe they should allow it to go on, May God have mercy on us Spore, and save us all from the worst yet to be..
