[edit] Why is Shanghai more expensive to live than even Spore?

In the past China (before 1990s) garmen used a double system of currency (one for locals, and another for tourists & outsiders). Yet the hotels and hostels or places to stay are full of locals (in-tourists). How could they afford those rates? Answer: simply they double it for foreigners and discount it for locals. The only difference is that foreigners carry foreigner's passports, and local have their own identity or Chinese passports.

Some city fun ten|stay-in rice hotel for locals don't allow foreigners to stay! Yet those fun ten are more posh even than the hotels we stayed!

If you are a foreigner working as a foreigner in China, remember the tax rates are 40 per cent! Many Foreigners came working their home Companies (Corporations) or maybe just scouting for (English) language teachers' jobs, and believe there is a pot of gold in Shanghai..hehehe.And those condos in Shanghai are built at a speedy rate (without infrastructure sometimes) and rented out quick. Locals need the accommodations, as well as foreigner expats. Foreigners are expected to pay more, and the ppl or owners tend to be unwilling to rent for less. Even the surrounding farmers also take a ride along with the housing boom and cater to the locals rentals. Their rented farm houses often looks bed cum breakfast mansions in the nowhere!
