"Now I LEE KUAN YEW Prime Minister of Singapore, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM AND DECLARE on behalf of the people and the Government of Singapore that as from today the ninth day of August in the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-five Singapore shall be forever a sovereign democratic and independent nation, founded upon the principles of liberty and justice and ever seeking the welfare and happiness of her people in a more just and equal society.
(Signed) LEE KUAN YEW Prime Minister of Singapore Dated the 9th day of August, 1965."
- QuoteDemocracy and freedom is something we sacrificed in Singapore’s formation years in the name of progress. In order to grow as a nation, the people let go of these two ideals and chose to follow whatever the government says.unquote

- THE GREATEST fear is death, then fear of uncertainty however most Singaporeans never know what's to live without fear..we must learn to cultivate love and trust, a positive natural environment to develop our mind sets for the good of All - including the unborn Singaporeans if we are to survive the good or hard times:[[User:Terry|wowowow|]] 10:03, 2 October 2008 (SGT)

..OR tIME IS MONEY? WRONG? AGAIN?
By far Singaporeans needed core values not just more money that is never going to be enough for you, me or esp. PAP!
Here a few samples:
45. No matter how old you are, you keep associating people with their secondary schools. (alternative: No matter how old you are, you secretly need to know what other people got for their PSLE, O levels and A levels.)
46. You’re always on a quest for the definitive version of your favourite local dish.
47. When you explain things to people, you keep (a) using alphabets, and (b) speaking in point form.
48. You believe that you can generate ‘creativity’ through rules and committees.
49. You ‘chope’ a seat by placing a packet of tissues on the chair.
50. You’re very forthright with your criticisms of the Gahmen, unless there’s a chance they might actually hear you.
51. You diligently track the whereabouts of your favourite hawkers, i.e..you know that the famous Tiong Bahru Bao is now in Jurong, the famous Outram Char Kuay Teow is now in Hong Lim Centre and the famous Lau Hock Kien Hokkien mee from the old Lau Pa Sat is now at Beach Road.
52. Your mother probably can’t speak your ‘mother tongue’.

Encik Yusof bin Ishak (August 12, 1910 - November 23, 1970) was an eminent Singaporean politician. Born in Perak, he first served as Yang di-Pertuan Negara (head of state) between 1959 and 1965, remaining in office during the time that Singapore was part of Malaysia, between 1963 to 1965. Following Singapore's departure from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965, he served as President of the Republic until his death in 1970. His face adorns the current paper currency of Singapore that is in circulation
the late Lim Chin Siong , his legendary namesake was from Wu-Siong t-ah Hu < the Chinese hero who take on the the Tiger!
We seldom heard of good men of Singapore because there are so few. In the 1960s, a young Spartan Chinese Middle school graduate was a hero among the Chinese speaking people on the Island. A person whom even Mr. Lee Kuan Yew was far behind as far as grassroots support and leadership among the aspirants of anti-British and anti-colonialist pioneers. He was a dedicated trade Union leader and <believed to be> a communist and one whose example was above blame in manner and speech. How many had known him, yes among most Singaporean above 60s and those Chinese educated speakers, his name was familiar and much respected. Today we may have forgotten him because a greater part of his adulthood was spent behind bars as a detainee of the ruling Garmen <the PAP>. He was detained from 1963 until his release on 28th July 1969 after his renouncing Politics and went into exile in London. He returned to Singapore in 1979 with his family before dying of a heart attack on 5th February 1996. Among those who attended his funeral were Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and Dr. Toh Chin Chye. His political opponents respectfully had not forgotten him. This is the example of the character that PAP was afraid and they had to put him behind bars for so many years!
- Lee Kuan Yew wrote of Lim in his obituary:
“I liked and respected him for his simple lifestyle and his selflessness. He did not seek financial gain or political glory. He was totally committed to the advancement of his cause…Because of the standards of dedication they set, we, the English-educated PAP leaders, had to set high standards of personal integrity and spartan lifestyles to withstand their political attacks. They were ruthless and thorough. We became as determined as they were in pursuing our political objectives.”

Another pioneer of the idea of the Island State and nation of Singapore he passed on..and our national flag at half mast to salute such a great mind among us, Former Deputy Prime Minister S. Rajaratnam. He was born an Indian <east Indian> by birth but he reckoned no color nor creed as important but the mind with the right idea of the dignity for all manking..just as another pioneer in Science: Einstein who fathered a host of universal truths relating to time and space.. the late Mr. Rajaratham <1915 - 2006> was one of the founding fathers of the idea of the Republic of Singapore when most of us were but children and unborned Singaporeans! He thought, talked and walked a narrow way to foster that idea by convincingly telling others when he was one of the peers among so many others and serving as one of the longest foreign Minister for Singapore.

Former Singapore Cabinet Minister Lim Kim San has died at the age of 89. He was best known as "Mr HDB" for his role in providing low-cost housing for thousands of Singaporeans in the 1960s.
In his retirement, Mr Lim continued with other high-profile appointments, as well as a quiet one - as a talent scout for the People's Action Party in its self-renewal drive.
When contacted by Channel NewsAsia, family members said Mr Lim died peacefully at about 5.30pm on Thursday at his Dalvey Road residence.
They said he had been ill for sometime.
For someone who grew up helping out with the family business, politics was not Mr Lim's first career choice.
Born in 1916 in Singapore, Mr Lim was the eldest of six children.
He was educated at Anglo-Chinese School and then Raffles College, where he studied economics.
When World War II arrived and the Japanese occupied Singapore, Mr Lim was one of many tortured on suspicion of being pro-communist and pro-British.
"Those of us who have survived the horror and the brutality of the Japanese Occupation will never forget them. It was a traumatic and humiliating experience but it politicised my generation and we vowed never to let our fate be decided by others," Mr Lim said in November 1996.
After the war, Mr Lim was, in his own words, a young man "in a hurry to make a living" to make up for the wasted years.[[4]]
